More than 100,000 unique visitors in 48 hours.

Hello guys,

Just a simple note. We had more than 100,000 unique visitors in 48 hours. That’s amazing! Not only you guys are helping the iPhone cause in Canada, but with all your efforts, we could change the face of the cell market in this country. I have hope that this petition can change something. WE can make a difference. Keep spreading the word all around you guys. We can do it.

James.

Obviously Rogers is charging too much, and there are a variety of reasons why this is allowed to happen. But seriously, a sad “wah wah I cannot afford an iPhone” whinefest open letter? Puh-lease. Should there be a call-to-arms because the nation’s lower-middle class cannot afford to lease a Touareg? TRAVESTY! Whatever happened to the people’s car?! The iPhone was never the people’s phone. It’s a luxury item. You can still afford a $0 Motorola phone. No one’s rights are being trampled upon. You live in Canada, and in Canada Rogers gets to put it in any hole they please, without lubricant.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU’RE DOING, JAMES!

Glad to see Reuters and even CNN Money are running stories about this. We need more mass-media coverage both in Canada & America.

If nothing can be done to change Rogers’ BS iPhone plans, then we should start petitioning towards Apple asking them to release a CDMA version of the iPhone so that Bell & Telus can cause competition towards Rogers.

Can you imagine if all 3 major carriers in Canada were selling the iPhone? Data plans would probably be 100% more affordable and may even be cheaper than what AT&T is currently offering.

I dreamed for over 1 year just in hopes that I’d be able to BUY an iPhone legally in Canada, guess I can dream another 1-2 years to see a CDMA version be created.

Love what you’re trying to do James. Rogers deserves all the bad publicity it’s now seeing. They’ve been ‘pimpin’ us for so long, and I’m glad the iPhone has finally brought up the topic of horrible plan pricing up again.

  6. Rob Says:

I know you are targeting Rogers and Apple but you should extend your complaint to the CRTC, Industry Canada (who provides the license that Rogers operates under) and the Competition Bureau. These authorities have the ability to “force change”

  7. Blaine Says:

    …100,000 visitors…. WHY DIDN’T THEY SIGN!

We need this in the media if we had over 100,000 we would surely have media coverage from all the big news groups in Canada, and the World.

  8. Ben Eadie Says:

Wow! Great work guys! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

To be honest though I think the best way to show rogers is to make the release day a absolute flop. Now I know it is nearly impossible to pull off but is definately worth a try. if we could have the sales for the iPhone on the first day or two or better yet the first week when it is released next to zero it would show rogers that this is really poor business.

So how do we stop people from getting the phone?

    Ben

  9. ben Says:

how about adding a calculator, that keeps track of how much revenue rogers is losing, based on the number of people signing the petition.

Imagine if you went AT&T’s route $30 a month unlimited data….. lets calculate 15,000 signatures of people who will not buy the Iphone 15000 multiplied by $30 a month = 450,000 multiplied by 12 months = $5,400,000 multiplied by 3 yrs = $16,200,000 profit over 16 million not including voice plans …. wow thats alot of money your company wont earn…

  10. DMBfan Says:

Word out there is that this site/petition allows multiple signatures from the same person. As a result, the number of signatures has lost a lot of credibility. Could this be addressed? Is it true?

    Great work, btw.

You should add google adwords to your site and encourage your new audience to click on any Rogers ads. Let them pay your bandwidth.

Not “we could/can” James, “we WILL!!!”

  16. Robert Says:

You will sadly change nothing. Prices are there because rogers is a buisness and a smart buisness at that. they can choose to use introduction rates of this magnitude for obvious reasons. if you want the Iphone you will pay for the plans. It makes the company money and gives the consumer what they have been begging for (iphone). I take you back a few years with the whole motorola razer when it came out and the hype behind it. plans went up in cost because people will buy and pay. Once the hype is calm prices will go down. So stop your bitching and relax. If your that cheap then please move to America and pay there plan prices and realize what you pay for other living cost in the end .. let me know how that pans out for you.

    Me to Rogers Customer Service:

I don’t have a question. More of a comment really on your new “iphone friendly” rates. They are a slap in the face to every cell phone consumer in Canada and a clear statement of the lack of wireless competition in this country. I was ready to cancel out of my Telus contract to become a new Rogers customer, but now there isn”t a chance. Why would I pay $130.00/mo when I can have the equivalent cell phone minutes with Telus for $70/mo? The voice plans are what kill me. It’s like you people forgot that this revolutionary device is actually A PHONE! Bottom line, the prices are ridiculous and if you think people want an iphone THAT badly, your company has another thing coming. Check out http://www.ruinediphone.com to see what I”m talking about. You’ve pissed off a lot of people with this one.

Seriously consider organizing demonstrations at every Rogers outlet in Canada – and seriously do NOT support Rogers financially or any other way until their overall cellphone rates approach those in Europe or the USA.

  20. Antony Pranata Says:

You have full support from me… a disappointed Rogers customer because the data plan is damn expensive.

  21. justin Says:

I spend six months in Toronto every year from the Uk and i am not too surprised at the price of your 3G iphone and tariffs. The problem you guys have is that there is really no competition for Rogers unlike we have in the UK.
I was thinking of buying the 3G iphone when i get to Canadain in August, i guess that is out of the question now. Boycott is the the only thing these multinationals like Rogers and Apple understands. Keep up the good work.

  22. Jette D. Says:

The plans in many European countries are worse than Rogers. In Denmark there is a 300MB data limit for a monthly price of 119 US dollar. After 6 months, the price drops to 80 US dollar.

It seems that greed is common among iPhone resellers. But instead of setting up petitions and writing letters to Steve Jobs, you should just _not_ by it. If enough people choose to ignore iPhone, prices will naturally drop.

But I’m afraid that there are plenty of iPhone lovers out there, who are happy to pay the price.

  23. Johan Cyprich Says:

Why don’t you put some ads here (i.e. Google Adsense) and make some money? A high traffic blog like this is losing a lot of potential by not being monetized. You could probably make enough money here to pay for Roger’s overpriced iPhone rates. :)

  24. Scott F. Says:

I am as fed up and sickened with the Rogers plan for the iphone as everyone else. When I saw the ads and videos on the iphone I needed to have one (at any cost I told myself). But after seeing the plans available, I am thinking that “any cost” is too high. I am a long time Telus customer. I recently called them regarding an unrelated issue with my current phone and the conversation turned to the new iphone. Their tech support people transfered me directly to a customer service rep who indicated that Telus was offering the new HTC Diamond sometime in July/Aug. As a long time customer they were going to give me this phone for free (usually charge $149.00 under a three year plan) and include free unlimited email for $7 a month. I believe they have an unlimited data plan for $30 a month. Now I know the HTC is no iphone (I havent finished doing my research into this yet), but it may be a more economical alternative for some.

Now I am no brain surgeon (though I play on on TV) but I am going to seriously look at this phone and see if it will meet my needs.

    Just my two cents worth.
